so Peter, when you signed your name on mt Quimby in VT last year, did you expect someone else would sign in so soon after you? There was a 10 years gap after John Person left one of his many jars on peaks in New England.

Do you believe in such thing as "message in a bottle" on the mountains?

Congratulation on your AT completion.

I'm a peakbagger from New England :D

Albert SIler and his wife are listed as being buried in Section 3 of woodlawn Cemetery (http://files.usgwarchives.org/nc/macon/cemeteries/woodlawn3.txt).
Other relatives including his famous grandson, A. Rufus Morgan, is buried in the cemetery of St. John's Episcopal Church in Cartoogechaye, just west of Franklin on Rt64. If you take aptly named St. John's Church Road to the right, you will find a little church that Morgan built and preached at after he retired. His grave is near the far end of the cemetery from the parking lot. There is a wealth of local history in that cemetery, and around the base of the little church. A lovely place.

Hello, great story and great photographs!

I'm trying to track down Rick Shortt for permission to use some of his fantastic photos in our upcoming newsletter. My organization recently added some more land to Three Top Mtn. Gamelands, and we'd love to highlight this story with one of Rick's pictures. I can't seem to find a way to contact him--can you help me?

Thanks, and best of luck in your future adventures.

Whippersnap! Congratulations on summiting K! I ran into Grapevine atop Mt Washington and he gave me the news, but alas, I could not text congrats to the phone number he gave me. So, now, I take this approach.

I was so happy to hear the news, and you got it done in time to start the new job. Yay for you bud!

I got it done too, but it took me till October 5 which is just fine with me.

I shared your recipe for Oriental Ramen with PB added with many people along the way, always giving you the credit for the culinary inspiration that it is! If you ever get tired of peak bagging and fire towers you could write a book, 100 things to do with Ramen. Just a thought. I think you'd be good at it.

Later pal, and again, CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations on your hike and fund raising. Both impressive. I'm the SOBO you met at the halfway marker back in June. (I took your pic next to the stone that Earl Shaffer had self-photographed in 1948!) I knew after talking to you for 5 minutes that you were going to make your deadline. You impressed me as a very determined young man and you are one of only a few who seem to have a love of the trail. Wish there were more of you out there. I hiked til Harpers Ferry and quit a few days early because of the heat. Then went to Maine and hiked from Gorham, NH to Monson, ME. Will finish the last 114 miles next year! (And then Harpers Ferry to Springer sometime.) Best wishes to you on the career you are starting. --Bud

Awesome list, Peter.
Thanks for posting.
Any chance you'll consider a post-trip update to let us know how everything worked out.
The before comments are useful, but I'm more interested in hearing how it all played out on the trail.
